Chorley

North of Wigan by (13 km) 8.1 miles, north west of Bolton by (18 km) 11 miles, south west of Blackburn by 10.8 miles (17 km), to Manchester's north west by 19.5 miles (31 km), and to Preston's south by 12 miles (19 km), Chorley is in Lancashire, England. At the West Pennine Moors foot, Chorley by Healey Nab is overlooked, a West Pennine Moors hill. In the centre, Chorley railway station is the central railway station.

Connecting the town to Bolton, Preston and Manchester, through Chorley the Preston to Northern Manchester Line runs. Chorley F.C., the football team that is semi professional, due to their strip that is white and black known as the Magpies, is in Chorley. The American Football Club, Chorley Buccaneers, is in the town.

In Chorley, they are at Parklands Academy. The weekly Chorley Guardian and the free Chorley Citizen include local newspapers that Chorley has. Known as the 'Day' Training College of Chorley from the 1960s, the town was home to Chorley Training College from 1905 to 1981, designed by the Victorian and Edwardian architect Henry Cheers, and the town centre building occupying this site is Chorley Public Library.

Chorley was vital in mining, given its location on the edge of Lancashire Coalfield. Offering a courses range, a speciality being courses for residential language that are intensive, Lancashire College is a part of Adult Learning in Lancashire by Lancashire County Council, in Chorley. In addition to a private hospital in Euxton, Chorley is served by the NHS hospital Chorley and South Ribble Hospital which is on Euxton Lane.

Governed by a mayor and council of aldermen and councillors, Chorley became incorporated as a mb in 1881. Though it is believed on the site there was an Anglo-Saxon chapel that was earlier which was a Croston Parish Church daughter foundation, St Laurence's Church is Chorley's remaining building that is oldest and first appears in 1362 in historical records when it was dedicated.

Though evidence that is archaeological has shown that since at least the Bronze Age the area has been inhabited, in Chorley until the Middle Ages there was no known occupation. Competed in cross country, road, triathlon, athletics, and fell events is Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club.
